I present to you Syzygy, this year’s Satellite Design Competition Team, composed of a wide range of engineers and scientists, prepared to combine their knowledge to achieve technical excellence!
Our main focus is participating in UKSEDS Satellite Design Competition, which challenges student teams to design, build and test a CubeSat.
The mission this year is designing and building a 3U CubeSat capable of scanning and analysing a mock lunar surface from the distance within a “Mystery Room”. To achieve this, it is mandatory to develop a working camera and processing system able to detect and calculate surface features, such as crater depth or relative positioning. Image quality, communications link and processing power therefore become drivers of this mission. A versatile AOCS will also be a priority in order to properly point and focus the optical payload.
After design and building, our team is committed to constructing challenging testing facilities that simulate the “Mystery Room” and verify the correct functioning of the satellite under different circumstances. To top this, our team is planning to manage several outreach activities to inspire and engage the next generation through space events and workshops. These efforts jointly highlight our dedication to growing as professionals together with the community.
