About to start at Cranfield University, or a current student eager to get involved? This page has all of the timelines for applications and joining projects for the 2024-2025 academic year.
There will be plenty of opportunities to talk to us and sign up, but you can also join our mailing list here:
If you would like to be a part of the 24/25 CranSEDS community, you can register your interest to become a member here!
The President is the external face of the CranSEDS: they coordinate the day-to-day running of the society, and liaise with existing and potential sponsors and collaborators.
The Vice-President supports the President in the running of the society. They will liaise with external organisations, and may organise industry visits and talks.
The Treasurer is a key role in CranSEDS: they set and allocate the yearly budget, support Project Managers with creation and maintenance of their budgets and spending, and ensure CranSEDS members are up-to-date with their subscription fees.
The Membership secretary's role is to maintain an up-to-date list of society members and to answer questions from potential and existing members.
The Head of Outreach is responsible for liaising with local schools and youth groups to provide workshops, talks, and sessions to young people in the local community.
The Head of Comms' role is to maintain a consistent presence on social media platforms, showcasing CranSEDS' activities. They will liaise with the rest of the committee and with a designated contact in each project team to generate content.
The most important committee member! The social secretary plans and coordinates CranSEDS' social events - from launch watch parties to darts nights.
The Workshop manager is responsible of looking after the lab and keeping inventory of our equipment.
They work closely with the technicians and PMs to ensure optimal working conditions for every team.
Project Managers oversee the whole life cycle of their project: from recruiting team members, through design reviews to the competition and the aftermath. PMs have been chosen for their technical experience relevant to the project, demonstrated leadership and management skills (including time management and communication!).
We also ask that you plan to remain in Cranfield for the duration of the project - so this is less suited to someone planning to take on an internship.
CranSEDS do not typically require an application to join one of our teams - all you need is to be keen and turn up! All current Cranfield University students (Masters and PhD) and staff members are welcome to join. We do also ask a small subscription fee to be part of CranSEDS - this year the membership fees are 15£ and will help the Society and its Projects.
The "official" CranSEDS recruitment campaign has now ended, as the projects are about to properly start. However, if you are interested in joining a project, please send a mail to cranseds@cranfield.ac.uk explaining your motivations, the Project Manager will hopefully be happy to count you in his/her team !
